A useful trade-off

Why can the PNG be larger?

HEIC compresses photos efficiently. PNG stores the full image data, so it often takes more space. Choose PNG for editing, transparency, or broad compatibility; JPG or WebP are often better when sharing size matters.

Why PNG?

Why convert HEIC to PNG?

HEIC is Apple's default photo format, and many Android devices, older Windows computers, and web tools cannot open it without a helper app. Converting HEIC to PNG gives you a universally readable file: PNG opens in every modern browser, editor, and Windows application, including built-in image viewers.

PNG also keeps every pixel from the decoded HEIC image, so converting to PNG is a safe, lossless way to copy photos out of a closed ecosystem. Because the whole conversion runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded — your private photos stay on your device while you work.

What to expect

HEIC to PNG conversion in your browser, step by step

The converter above accepts up to 20 files per batch, 25 MB per file, and 100 MB of input per batch. Pick any size you like: keep the original pixels or set a custom width and height, with the aspect ratio preserved automatically. Every PNG is written as sRGB color with photo metadata removed by default, so GPS, camera, and date-taken data never reach the output file.

When the batch is done, download each image on its own or grab one ZIP with all results. Nothing is stored on a server — files are read, converted, and written entirely on this device.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are processed locally in your browser. Read our Privacy details.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 25 MB each, 20 files, and 100 MB per batch. High-resolution photos use more memory.

Why is the PNG larger than the HEIC?

PNG stores the image without re-compressing it, so it can be larger than the original HEIC.

Can conversion restore detail already lost in HEIC?

No. PNG does not add detail that was lost when the original photo was encoded.

Will my location or camera information be kept?

No. The converter removes photo metadata by default.

Can Windows open the PNG file?

Yes. See the Windows guide.
